Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 1st Dorking (St Martin’s) Scout Group held a coin collection in St Martin’s Walk during the ‘Scout Community Week’ to support our local museum and Scout charities

Thanks to the generosity of Dorking shoppers £226 was raised – with 30 members of the group setting out the donated coins on a scout sign, silver on the fleur-de-lys and copper on the surrounding areas.

Half of the proceeds from the collection were donated to Dorking Museum to help their preparations for reopenning later this year. The remaineing proceeds were divided equally between the Scout Headquarters Development Grants Board, which helps those young people across the country who need financial support in order to take part in scouting, and group funds.

During the collection, two sets of display boards were set out, both of which generated considerable interest with the public. One showed progress on the museum redevelopment and the other the wide range of exciting activities enjoyed by Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the Dorking Scout District.
